Not only nature..
Ogliastra means not only nature, but also history that can be discovered through the archaeological heritage of the land such as the nuraghe Su Siribissi in Osini, nuraghi Sa Iba Manna and Moru in Barisardo and many others, as well as Domus de Janas, holy wells and menhirs, called “Perdas Fittas”. Moreover, Ogliastra means religion and folklore: summer evenings in towns are characterized by performances of folk music bands, photographic exhibitions, folk dancing, Sardinian handicrafts expositions, town and religious festivals, like the “Festival of Madonna delle Grazie”
Lots of tourist events
On the first Sunday in July, an impressive procession at sea called Stella Maris is celebrated in Arbatax. In this occasion local fishermen offer every participants some fried fish for free. In August the port area of Arbatax hosts the famous blues music festival called “Rocce Rosse”.
Some tourist events take place also in Barisardo, Baunei, Santa Maria Navarrese and Cardedu, like the festival “INSIEME A CARDEDU”.
A wine festival is organized on 8th August in Jerzu. You can visit little private wine cellars and admire a fascinating parade where young guys and girls wearing traditional costumes walk besides old oxcarts. The highlight of the festival is when the wine Cannonau is offered, together with a local typical food tasting: you can savor products such as “coccoi prena”, “coccoi ‘e tamatta”, culurgiones and various kind of cheese.
At St. Lorenzo night, on 10th August, Jerzu hosts also the event called "Calici di Stelle", related to the wine festival. It takes place in a enchanting atmosphere on the old town centre among its ancient wine cellars. Tourists can taste some of the most vintage wines, poured in glass goblets and served with typical food, while listening to the charming sound of launeddas and music played by tenores and other street artists. |
